Imported cars also known as "Grey Imports" that have been brought in from other countries will not be insured by many car insurance providers. The reasons for this are that if these type of vehicles are involved in an accidents the cost to replace or repair them could well be significantly higher than a similar car already in the UK.
Import cars have to go through an SVA test before they can be registered in the UK, this requires the car having all the necessary checks done to make sure it is legal to drive in the UK.
Also worth remembering is that Import cars are generally classed in the highest insurance group, group 20!
